Hidden Creek Tosca, Ariano and Chocolate Martini Named Champions at the Young Jumper Championships
The top 15 qualifiers after two rounds in the five- to eight-year-old classes found the competition tough at the Young Jumper Championships (YJC) as they advanced to the finals at the Midwestern League Finals at the Kentucky National Horse Show in Lexington, KY, on September 26, 2008. Clear rounds were at a premium over Conrad Homfeld's course in the Kentucky Horse Park with only two horses reaching a tight jump-off in the seven- to eight-year-old division as Hidden Creek Tosca got the better of RGC Farm's Uceko by less than a second.

Sport Horse Nationals Payback Program Awards Over $46,000
Exhibitors at the recent Sport Horse National (SHN) Championships were pleasantly surprised by the news that they won some unexpected cash at the show. Where did their windfall come from?
Less than one year ago, the SHN Payback Program was born by a group of longtime Arabian breeders and riders. By offering cash rewards, the group hopes to encourage interest and enthusiasm in the Sport Horse Nationals show, as well as the breeding of Arabians specifically for the sport-type disciplines of dressage, hunter/jumper and carriage driving.

Iron Spring Farm's Pilgrim ISF Selected for Stallion Testing
Iron Spring Farm's three-year-old homebred Friesian stallion, Pilgrim ISF, was awarded the prestigious First Premie Star designation and was selected for KFPS stallion testing during the Friesian Horse Association of North America (FHANA) KFPS keuring on September 29, 2008. Iron Spring Farm's success during the keuring also includes Pilgrim's dam, Toltsje fan't Boekehof, receiving an 82.5 on her IBOP (performance) test to earn the prestigious Model designation. She also received the Champion Mare Award.

During the weekend of February 19-20, 2009, members of the equestrian community and South Florida social scene will gather at the 111-acre Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL, for the Second Annual Lusitano Collection Auction. The prestigious event will indulge guests with lavish cocktails and a gala dinner, courtesy of The Lusitano Collection. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center.

Bid on a Special Filly at the Inaugural American Paint Horse Association Fall Championship Show

The American Holsteiner Horse Association (AHHA) is celebrating the Holsteiner's success in the Olympics as the fall approvals tour kicks off. The Olympic Games in Hong Kong was a big success for the Holsteiner breed. Nine medals went to the Holsteiner horses: four Gold, one Silver and four Bronze.

The Inaugural All American Three-Year-Old Cup Makes History
The 2008 All American Horse Classic, held in Indianapolis, IN, September 2-6, 2008, hosted the inaugural All American Three-Year-Old Cup, with the largest paying performance class in history, an unprecedented $170,000 purse. Out of 26 competing three-year-olds, Elisabeth Goth Chelberg’s Pola Negri by Elisabeth's world's champion stallion Exalted Effect, was declared the winner of a record $52,500. Her name will be the first plate engraved on the Harlem Globetrotter Perpetual Trophy, presented by Kalarama Farm owner Joan Hamilton.
Arabian Horse Association's 2008 Sport Horse Nationals Called "The Best Yet"
The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) Sport Horse National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show (Sport Horse Nationals) made its sixth annual appearance from September 23-27, 2008, at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, ID. The event featured 339 horses and 78 classes in four divisions: sport horse in-hand and under-saddle, dressage, pleasure carriage driving and hunter/jumper. “This was the best Sport Horse Nationals to date,” said Bill Pennington, Chair of the show’s commission.

American Hanoverians Take Home $8,000 in Special Awards at Dressage at Devon
American-bred Hanoverians vied for several special cash awards offered at Dressage at Devon, September 23-28. This was the second year that Paul Cohen of Associations Underwriters, Inc., & Ziplow Horse Insurance Agency (AUIZHI) donated $2,000 for Hanoverians bred by members of the Mid-Atlantic Hanoverian Breeders Club (MAHB) competing in the breeding division of the prestigious show in Devon, PA. The AUIZHI-MAHB award endows $1,000 to the highest-placed young horse and $1,000 to the highest-placed mature horse, money to be split between owner and breeder. The only stipulation is that the horse must be an American Hanoverian Society (AHS)-registered Hanoverian that was bred by a member of MAHB. The current owner need not be a MAHB member.

Attention all USEF Members
Good news awaits when you renew your membership online for 2009! If you were an amateur, professional or junior member in 2007 or 2008, you will be able to renew online using our new Quick Renewal. Just log in to your Authorized User Account and select the Quick Renew option. All of your membership information will be there. All you have to do is review it; edit it, if necessary; submit payment; and print out a copy of your 2009 card.
In addition, the membership process has been further streamlined by doing away with the breed/discipline dues. The new USEF Competing Equestrian Membership due for all Senior Active and Junior Active members is $55. With that, you will be able to participate at all USEF Licensed Competitions, as well as receive automatic insurance and MemberPerks.
There are also two new member categories for individuals not participating in USEF Licensed Competitions. The USEF Equestrian ($35) includes the automatic insurance and access to the MemberPerks program, while the Club Equestrian ($15) includes access to MemberPerks.
