Olympian Michelle Gibson and Don Angelo Win Inaugural USEF National Developing Horse Dressage Championship sponsored by the Dutta Corporation and Performance Sales International

“The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home” and it certainly did shine brightly on Olympian Michelle Gibson and her new star Don Angelo in the inaugural USEF National Developing Horse Dressage Championship, sponsored by the Dutta Corporation and Performance Sales International. Following up on their winning Developing Horse Test ride on Saturday, Gibson and Don Angelo made the Prix St. Georges test look effortless in earning a test score of 70.000% for an overall average of 69.960% and the National Championship title.

Owned by Terri Kane’s Diamante Farms, Don Angelo (Don Larino x Elektina by Rubinstein I) is a 2000 dark bay Oldenburg stallion, bred in Germany by Hartmut Janssen. Last year, Gibson and Don Angelo were Reserve Champions at the Markel/USEF Young Horse Eastern Selection Trial in Raleigh, NC, and were short-listed for the FEI World Breeding Championships in Verden, Germany.

Capitol Hill Named Overall Champion in the Sallie B. Wheeler/USEF National Hunter Breeding Championship

Willy Arts and Waterloo SE Win Four-Year-Old Division in the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships

With the second day underway in the 2007 Markel/United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Young Horse Dressage Championships presented by Collecting Gaits Farm, Willy Arts and Waterloo SE claimed the title of National Champion in the four-year-old division, besting 19 other horses to win with a score of 8.62. It was Kentucky’s own Kathy Priest and her horse Reliance who took Reserve Champion with a score of 8.16.

Iron Spring Farm's Yearling Bien Sir ISF Claims Grand Champion at Dressage at Devon Presented by WTDirect

In an exciting finish to the second day of Dressage at Devon presented by WTDirect, a yearling bested two very impressive mature horses to win the grand championship. Iron Spring Farm’s Bien Sir ISF claimed the night’s final victory after also earning three championships on Day One. The Sir Sinclair son impressed the international judging panel and audience with his elastic, uphill movement and charisma.

Friesian Stallion Ulbert 390 Begins His American Career with Wins

Earlier this summer Iron Spring Farm welcomed Ulbert 390 to its stallion roster. The impressive FPS-approved Friesian barely hit American soil before he began winning in dressage at third level at top shows such as Dressage at Lexington with scores near 70%. Not only is his performance career in high gear, but the nine-year-old is already the sire of 15 Star stallions and 37 Star mares. Eighty-one percent of his offspring have been awarded First or Second Premie, including Iron Spring’s young Star stallion Jonas ISF, who placed second in the Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings at Dressage at Devon 2006 against the warmbloods.

Dressage at Devon Breed Show Showcases the Stars of the Future

While the Dressage at Devon performance show is one of the hottest tickets of the year, those in the know also come to the Breed Show. These classes take place the first three days of the event that is held, September 25-30, 2007. The Dressage at Devon Breed Show is one of the largest and most prestigious sport horse shows outside of Europe. With nearly 70 classes and more than $5,000 in prize money and awards, competitors come from coast to coast to stake their claim for glory.

Bugatti Hilltop Coming to the United States

In response to numerous inquiries and requests from American breeders, Hilltop Farm announced that Bugatti Hilltop will come home this fall to stand at stud at Hilltop Farm, making him available in the U.S. for breeding by both fresh cooled and frozen semen for the 2008 season. The 1998 Hanoverian stallion, by Bergamon out of a Rubinstein I x Donnerhall mare, has competed successfully in dressage for several years with Michael Klimke in Germany. Currently competing at Prix St. Georges and Intermediare I, Bugatti has earned top placings at both national and CDI competitions in Europe. Once in the United States, Bugatti will continue in work with Hilltop’s Director of Training Chris Hickey.

American Trakehner Association Convention Announced

The 2007 American Trakehner Association (ATA) convention and breed inspection will be held November 8-10 in Denton, TX. In addition to convention meetings, many North American Trakehner breeders will bring their horses to be shown before an international committee of judges.

All horse activities will be held at Whispering Farms Equestrian Center in Prosper and are open to the public. Events include a performance exhibition, stallion parade, and hunter and jumper stake classes.

2007 USEA/Spalding Labs Young Event Horse Series Championships Wrap-Up

The 2007 USEA/Spalding Labs Young Event Horse (YEH) Series Championships took place on September 12 at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL, the day before the opening of the Wellpride American Eventing Championships. The YEH competition was designed to identify the upper-level event horses of the future, and Hanno (Windfall II x Hulta) has made his mark as a definite contender. Last year the Trakehner gelding, the first U.S.-bred offspring of Darren Chiacchia's Olympic partner Windfall, claimed the four-year-old championship, and this year he came back to win top honors in the five-year-old division. Bred by Dr. Timothy and Cheryl Holekamp, he is ridden by Chiacchia, who shares time in the saddle with the horse's owner Jean Kopperud.

Galant du Serein Euthanized

Horses Unlimited’s grand prix dressage stallion Galant du Serein has been euthanized. The 13-year-old bay Selle Francais stallion was suffering from laminitis as a result of complications from an injury sustained during hernia surgery in April. Every effort was made to save the Olympic dressage horse, but when the laminitis became too painful, the decision was made to let Galant go.

Historic, Sweeping Changes to Saddlebred Grand National Prize Program Announced

The leadership of the American Saddlebred Registry has announced the most comprehensive changes and updating of its American Saddlebred Grand National prize program in its 23-year history, based on decisions made by its board of directors in late July. Since 1984, over 10,000 Saddlebreds have been recorded in the program, including approximately 320 stallions; more than $2.6 million in prizes have been paid by the Grand National since its inception.
