2008 Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Selection Trials Conclude in Raleigh, NC

The Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Selection Trials concluded the 2008 qualifying season with competitions held across the country in Illinois, California and North Carolina to select the U.S. representatives for the 2008 FEI World Breeding Championships to be held in Verden, Germany, July 31–August 3, 2008.

The American Show Pony Registry (ASPR) Committee added $6,000 in incentive prize money for the ASPR classes at the World Championship Show and Shetland Pony Congress for 2008. The American Show Pony Registry is a division of the American Shetland Pony Club.

Anglo-Arabian Colt Raffle to Benefit Sport Horse Nationals Payback Program

A 2007 registered Anglo-Arabian colt is being raffled off as a benefit for the Sport Horse Nationals Payback Program.

Willis and Karin Foley of Solar Hill Sport Horses in Orange, VA, have generously donated their homebred colt, known as SH Deseo, to the program to show their support for this ground-breaking program. He is sired by CW Soxx and is out of Hips and Haws.

The American Trakehner Association Announces 2008 Inspections

The American Trakehner Association (ATA) is pleased to announce its 2008 inspection schedule. Inspections provide the opportunity to present horses for approval into the ATA studbooks, as well as offer participants a tremendous learning experience. Congress Overrides Veto of Farm Bill, Provisions Beneficial to Horses Become Law

On Thursday, May 22, Congress overrode Presidents Bush’s veto of the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, commonly known as the Farm Bill. The House passed the bill again on May 21, by a vote of 316 to 108. The Senate passed it a day later, May 22, by a vote of 82 to 13. Due to a clerical error, one title of the Farm Bill concerning trade remains in limbo. However, all other titles of the bill including several provisions that benefit the horse industry are now law.

Recognition for Anglo-Arabians

The North American Anglo-Arabian Horse Association (NAAAHA) will again be honoring Anglo-Arabian horses competing at Youth Nationals and Sport Horse Nationals in 2008. The top five winning Anglos in all classes at each show will be awarded an embroidered cooler and neck ribbon; the Supreme Champions will also receive a trophy.

Michelle Gibson and Diamante Farms' Don Angelo Set for USEF National Intermediaire I Championship

Diamante Farms of Wellington, FL, is pleased to announce that Michelle Gibson will compete Don Angelo, the farm's eight-year-old Oldenburg stallion, at the 2008 USEF National Intermediaire I Championship during the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Festival of Champions. The event will be held in San Juan Capistrano, CA, on June 21-22 and June 27-29, with the Intermediaire I championship scheduled for the second weekend. The American Miniature Horse Registry National Championship Show and The Shetland Pony Congress back on RFD-TV

Highlights of both the 2007 Platform® American Miniature Horse National Championships and the 2007 Platform® Shetland Pony Congress will be aired in May and June on RFD-TV. The American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) National Championship Show and the Shetland Pony Congress are the equivalent of the Super Bowl for Miniature horses and Shetland ponies. The shows attract the top small equines from throughout the U.S. Last year’s televised highlights from the shows are back on air just in time to get viewers hyped for the 2008 shows.
